Resumen de El paso de princesa de Asturias a reina de España: María Luisa de Parma vista por los embajadores extranjeros en la corte española (1786-1789)

La correspondencia que los embajadores extranjeros acreditados en Madrid escribían a sus países de origen resulta de gran interés, pues permite conocer varios detalles de la vida cotidiana en la corte española, así como diversos aspectos políticos y diplomáticos. El objetivo del presente artículo es analizar lo que los embajadores reportaban sobre María Luisa de Parma, nuera de Carlos III y esposa de Carlos IV, durante el período de transición que tuvo de princesa de Asturias a reina de España durante los últimos tres años del reinado de su suegro y el primero de su marido. Algunos de los asuntos tratados por los embajadores en sus cartas y que afectaron seriamente a María Luisa durante este período fueron el control al que estaba sujeta en la corte de su suegro, el problema de la mala salud de sus hijos y la sucesión a la corona, así como su creciente influencia en asuntos políticos al convertirse en reina de España.

The correspondence that the foreign ambassadors in Madrid wrote to their countries of origin is of great interest because it allows us to know several details of the daily life at the Spanish court, as well as various political and diplomatic aspects. The objective of this article is to analyze what the ambassadors reported about Maria Luisa of Parma, daughter-in-law of Carlos III and wife of Carlos IV, during the transition period that she had from Princess of Asturias to Queen of Spain during the last three years of the reign of her father-in-law and the first one of her husband. Some of the issues addressed by the ambassadors in their correspondence and that seriously affected Maria Luisa during this period were the constraint in which she lived at the court of her father-in-law, the problem of the poor health of her children and the succession to the crown, as well as her growing influence in political affairs upon becoming Queen of Spain.
