La gran mayoría de los museos de arte en España dependen directamente de las administraciones públicas, ya sean nacionales, autonómicas o locales. Sus colecciones, por tanto, se nutren de los presupuestos de estas administraciones y están sujetas a la decisión, disponibilidad e intenciones de las fuerzas políticas que las gobiernan. La proliferación de nuevos museos y centros de arte contemporáneo en España a finales del siglo XX y principios del XXI provocó un repentino interés por generar colecciones de arte contemporáneo a veces carentes de objetivos claros. Tras las sucesivas crisis económicas desde 2008, algunos de ellos vieron mermada su capacidad de adquisición, influyendo negativamente en el mercado y en todo el sistema del arte. Uno de los centros que mejor ha sobrevivido es el CA2M de Móstoles. La combinación de las dos colecciones que alberga, la de la Comunidad de Madrid y la de la Fundación ARCO, es uno de sus principales activos y mantiene una relación estrecha con el mercado del arte. La adquisición de obras cada año en la feria ARCO y en las galerías madrileñas refuerza la función legitimadora del coleccionismo institucional y mantiene activa y fluida la actividad del mercado y la relación entre los diferentes agentes que lo conforman. El ejemplo de la exposición "Dialecto CA2M" en 2021 ayuda a comprender la presencia del mercado como elemento legitimador y cohesionador en el contexto actual del arte contemporáneo.

Most of the art museums in Spain depend directly on pubtic administrations, whether national, regional or local. The collections they hold, therefore, are nourished by the budgets of these administrations and depend on the decision, avaitabitity and intentions of the potitical forces that govern them. The proliferation of new museums and contemporary art centers in Spain during the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st led to a sudden interest in generating collections of contemporary art, sometimes tacking clear objectives. After the successive economic crises since 2008, some of them suffered a decrease in their abitity to acquire new art works, which affected drastically the art market and the whole art system. One of the centers that has best survived these crises is the CA2M in Móstoles (Madrid.) The combination of the two collections it holds, that of the Community of Madrid and that of the Fundación ARCO, is one of its main assets and maintains a close relationship with the art market. The acquisition of art works every year at ARCO art fair and in the different local galleries reinforces the legitimizing function of institutional collecting and allows the comercial activity of the market to remain active and fluid, as well as the relationship between its different agents. The example of the exhibition "Dialecto CA2M" in 2021 helps to understand the presence of the market as a legitimizing and cohesive element in the current context of contemporary art.
