  This article aims to expose the historical course of Law 10639/03, which establishes the obligation of teaching African and Afro-Brazilian history and culture in schools and the teaching of literature. It is intended to list some notes on the question of the law itself and its implementation, observing the discourses and practices that have been constituted for the current curricular changes. The methodology consisted of a literature review by Nilma Lino Gomes (2005, 2011), Petronio Domingues (2007), Abdias do Nascimento (1982) and Kabenguele Munanga (2005), as well as reading the legislation.

  Este artigo tem como objetivo expor o percurso histórico da Lei 10639/03, a qual institui a obrigatoriedade do ensino de história e cultura africana e afro-brasileira nas escolas e o ensino de literatura. Pretende-se elencar alguns apontamentos na questão da lei em si e sua efetivação, observando os discursos e as práticas que têm se constituído para as mudanças curriculares atuais. A metodologia constou de revisão bibliográfica de Nilma Lino Gomes (2005, 2011), Petronio Domingues (2007), Abdias do Nascimento (1982) e Kabenguele Munanga (2005), além da leitura da legislação.
