Resumen de El doble discurso de la Unión Europea en su relación con el continente africano: el caso de la República Democrática del Congo y algunas empresas europeas

  La República Democrática del Congo es probablemente una de las zonas más ricas en recursos naturales a nivel regional y global, pero también es una de las más violentas en África y el mundo. Esta situación ha dado como resultado que el camino hacia el crecimiento, el desarrollo y la paz sea tortuoso. Uno de los factores que ha contribuido a ello es, por un lado, la existencia de grupos armados que se han dedicado a enfrentar al gobierno así como a la explotación y comercio ilegal de recursos naturales y, por otro lado, la existencia de un doble discurso por parte de las potencias occidentales, que se jactan de estar a favor de la democracia y los Derechos Humanos, al tiempo que favorecen los conflictos armados utilizando productos provenientes del comercio ilegal. En este sentido, el papel de las empresas que compran estos materiales, incluyendo a las europeas, ha sido determinante para la perpetuación de los conflictos armados que azotan la región y las consecuencias que éstos acarrean. Por lo tanto, resulta vital estudiar esta dinámica para contribuir a su adecuada comprensión y solución en la República Democrática del Congo y el resto de África.

  The Democratic Republic of the Congo is perhaps one of the richest regions in the world because of its natural resources. Unfortunately, it could also be one of the most violent regions in Africa and the world. This situation has resulted in the current scenario: a country in which the path towards growth, development and peace has been extremely hard to walk through. Among the things that have contributed to it are, on the one hand, the existence of armed groups which have continuously confronted the government and have illegally exploited and sold the natural resources and, on the other hand, the existence of a double discourse on behalf of the Western powers who are supposedly in favor of democracy and human rights and at the same time contribute to armed conflicts by using illegally exploited products. Thus, the role of the companies that buy these products, including European ones, has been determinant for the persistence of the armed conflicts in the region and its consequences. Therefore, the study of these dynamics is vital for the correct comprehension and solution of the conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the rest of Africa.
