    Le numérique rend possible une édition critique de l’Encyclopédie moyennant des choix méthodologiques adaptés à la complexité de l’œuvre. Ceux opérés par l’ENCCRE, en plus des gestes propres à toute édition critique (comme le choix d’un exemplaire original de référence) privilégient l’adéquation à l’objet matériel (accès constant à un fac-similé de qualité), la mise en valeur des enjeux intellectuels de l’entreprise (traitement scrupuleux des constituants textuels porteurs de ces enjeux, etc.) et une annotation à plusieurs échelles réalisée sur le temps long, et de façon collaborative, par un large collectif pluridisciplinaire. Un tel dispositif a permis de créer une nouvelle temporalité, où la publication progressive du travail critique favorise à la fois l’enrichissement et la dynamique de recherche sur l’ouvrage

    Digital tools have enabled a critical edition of l’Encyclopédie owing to methodological choices that have been adapted to the work’s complexity. The choices taken on by ENCCRE, apart from the normal functions attendant on all critical editions (such as the choice of an original reference copy), value especially the matching up with the material item (constant access to a quality facsimile), the foregrounding of the intellectual stakes of the project (scrupulous treatment of the textual components of such stakes, etc.), and an annotation on several layers achieved over a long period and collectively by a multidisciplinary team. Such a makeup has enabled the creation of a new temporality, whereby the progressive publication of critical work favours both the enrichment and the research dynamics of the work
