  La sífilis, llamada también “la gran simuladora”, es una enfermedad sistémica de transmisión sexual producida por la espiroqueta Treponema pallidum. Se presenta en dos diferentes estadios: sífilis temprana y tardía. La primera, constituida por la sífilis primaria, secundaria y latente temprana, ocurre en el primer año de adquirida la enfermedad. La segunda, correspondiente a la sífilis latente tardía y terciaria, se presenta más allá de dicho periodo. La expresión clínica difiere de acuerdo al estadio. Puede afectar a una amplia gama de sistemas del organismo, siendo la piel el órgano más frecuentemente afectado. Se presenta el caso de una paciente con lúes simulando enfermedad neoplásica.

  Syphilis, also known as “the great simulator”, is a systemic sexually transmitted disease caused by the spirochaete Treponema pallidum. There are two different stages: early and late syphilis. The first, consisting of primary, secondary and early latent syphilis, occurs during the first year since the disease is acquired. The second, which includes late latent and tertiary syphilis, occurs after the first year. Clinical expression differs according to the stage. It can affect a wide range of organ systems, skin being the most commonly affected organ. Alerts on the case of a patient with syphilis simulating neoplastic disease.
