    Teresa de Jesús se hizo presente en Italia a finales del siglo XVI por obra de sus hijos e hijas y de sus escritos, divulgados en el idioma original y en traducciones, con la importante contribución de los oratorianos de Roma. El proceso de canonización, culminado en 1622, impulsó la producción de obras literarias y figurativas y la elaboración teológica de su pensamiento, que se impuso a finales del siglo xvii como criterio de referencia en las controversias acerca de la teología mística.

    Teresa of Jesus became known in Italy at the end of the 16th century through the presence of her sons and daughters and through her writings, which were published in the original language and in translations, thanks in large part to the Oratorians of Rome. The canonization process, which reached its culmination in 1622, encouraged the production of literary and artistic works. By the end of the 17th century, the theological elaboration of her thought achieved acceptance as a crucial element in controversies concerning mystical theology.
