This paper aims to apply the model of discourse analysis, proposed by the Appraisal Theory, to the source text Cádiz (1930) and its translation in order to verify its usefulness. In Chapter 2, we present the aim of the paper. After that, we describe the tools of the Appraisal Theory (Chapter 1). In Chapter 4, we contextualize the source text and analyze its discourse by characterizing the textual voice and identifying its evaluative resources. Moreover, we observe whether the textual voice in the source text and its evaluations are the same in the translation. Finally, we point out the usefulness of this model for the later purpose of applying it to the corpus of my doctoral thesis, currently in preparation.
