This paper outlines a panoramic itinerary of Cesar Vallejo’s life, from his beginnings in his hometown, Santiago de Chuco, to his staying in Europe. His process of cultural and literary development enables him to assimilate his roots and undertake a strong work marked by identity and originality. He is not the modernist poet looking from the outside to the inside, but the other way around. Although in the beginning he expresses himself in a conventional language, with his work Trilce he undertakes a process of abrupt rupture from modernist forms and, then, he begins a true poetic revolution.
