La reedición del libra Corazón de Edmundo De Amicis (editado por primera vez en 1886) me trae -junto a los recuerdos escolares de su lectura- sentimientos encontrados de extrañeza e interrogantes múltiples que intento dilucidar. La irrupci6n actual de "Corazón en la televisión italiana, a través de lo que yo llamaría una irrespetuosa adaptación, abre el debate sobre su nueva introducci6n en la escuela italiana. Me remonto entonces a la narrativa original verdadero impacto a lo emocional- acompañada de las preguntas de nuestros docentes, que nos hacían penetrar en el mundo mágico generado por la prosa y la poesía cuando se amalgaman en el doble juego de preguntas y repuestas. Y así aparece el texto, moral y discursivo, cargado de afectividad, trayéndonos el mito del héroe de la Italia de la "unidad nacional". Aliento la hipótesis de que De Amicis lo escribió por razones puramente ideológicas. La impronta de la ética imperante y la moral familiar y militar se reproducen a través del libro en la escuela y vuelven ampliadas y pulimentadas de regreso al hogar. El principio de autoridad, la relación sumisa con el poder, afloran en estos cuentos que impactan directamente al “corazón". Lo mismo que haría el fascismo después y distintos totalitarismos con otros discursos. Sin embargo los maestros argentinos que lo usaron, lo hicieron desde una visión puramente didáctica y formativa, en pro del amor maternal, la sinceridad, la lealtad.

The reissue of Heart by Edmund De Amicis (first puljlished 1886) brings me - together with the school memories of its reading - opposing feelings of astonishment and multiple queries to elucidate. The present irruption of Heart into Italiah television, through a disrespectful adaptation, opens the debate on its new introduction into Italian schools. I then recall the original narrative - a true impact on emotions - accompanied by our teachers' questions, that made us penetrate the magic world generated by prose and poetry when merged into the double play of questions and answers. And thus appears the text, moral and discursive, loaded with affectivity, bringing to us the myth of the hero from the Italy of "national unity". I hypothesise that De Amicis wrote it for purely ideological reasons. Through Heart, the imprints of the prevailing ethics and family and military morals are reproduced in school, and return home enlarged and polished. The principle of authority, the submissive relationship with power appear in these stories that directly impact on the "heart". The same fascism and other totalitarianisms would later do with other discourses. However, the Argentinean teachers that used it, did it from a purely didactic and formative outlook, in favour of motherly love, sincerity, loyalty.
