Resumen de La Biblia novelada de Isaac-Joseph Berruyer y los enemigos de la Antigüedad

El artículo se interesa por la trayectoria cíclica de la recepción que la cultura hispana dispensó a la monumental Histoire du Peuple de Dieu de Isaac-Joseph Berruyer. La traducción al castellano a mediados del Setecientos de esa singular biblia novelada conoció primero una excepcional acogida y una fortuna editorial inmensa. Pero devino finalmente en objeto de repudio y estigmatización, figurándose incluso como encarnación suprema de unos enemigos de la Antigüedad a los que se imputaba la desacralización de la revelación. Quedó con ello clausurado el recorrido de una tentativa interesada en sondear la posibilidad y potencialidad de verter el relato bíblico sobre un molde literario entonces en trance de afirmación. Y en ese sentido se sostiene que el episodio puede ser leído como un capítulo inescindible del encastillamiento de la cultura hispana frente a toda forma de intervención en los libros bíblicos que pudiera conllevar la reescritura del mito cristiano.

The article is interested in the cyclical trajectory of the reception that Hispanic culture gave to Isaac-Joseph Berruyer’s monumental Histoire du Peuple de Dieu. The translation into Spanish in the middle of the eighteenth century of this singular novelized bible first met with an exceptional reception and an immense editorial fortune. But it finally became the object of repudiation and stigmatization, even being seen as the supreme incarnation of some enemies of Antiquity who were accused of desacralizing revelation. This closed the path of an attempt interested in probing the possibility and potential of pouring the biblical story on a literary mold then in the process of affirmation. And in this sense, it is argued that the episode can be read as an inseparable chapter of the Hispanic culture’s isolation from any form of intervention in the biblical books that could lead to the rewriting of the Christian myth.
