    George Santayana y María Zambrano, dos grandes fi lósofos de origen español, construyeron su pensamiento fuera de España. La clave de ese pensar transterrado, en el que hilaron sus ideas entre dos continentes y a contracorriente, reside en no haber participado del academicismo oficial y haber reivindicado el saber humanístico en medio de un mundo cada vez más pragmático y tecnificado. Ambos afrontan la voluntad de pensar ajenos a las evidencias cartesianas y las categorías kantianas. Esa manera de meditar, sintiendo preferencia por saberes fragmentarios más propios del poema que del sistema, les convierte en pensadores con un halo de resonancia del que puede extraerse diversas afinidades. Y en el horizonte, siempre la ciudad de Roma, en la que ambos encontraron las raíces de una herencia cultural y espiritual que compartían.

    George Santayana and María Zambrano, two great philosophers of Spanish origin, built their thinking outside of Spain. Th e key to that exiled [transterrado] thinking, in which they wove their ideas between two continents and against the current, lies in not having participated in offi cial academicism and having claimed humanistic knowledge in the midst of an increasingly pragmatic and technical world. Both face the will to think outside the Cartesian evidence and Kantian categories. That way of meditating, feeling a preference for fragmentary knowledge, more typical of the poem than of the system, makes them thinkers with a halo of resonance from which various affi nities can be extracted.
