    Na Itália, o ano de 1911 foi marcado por intensas comemorações em razão dos cinquenta anos do reino italiano. As festas daquele jubileu ocorreram nas cidades de Turim, Roma, Milão e Florença, e foram marcadas por extensa programação que tinha como propósito mostrar ao mundo a ascensão social, política e econômica da Itália após um crítico período de instabilidade nacional. A Exposição das Indústrias e do Trabalho em Turim foi uma das principais atrações daqueles festejos, com temática voltada para o desenvolvimento econômico a partir das atividades industriais. O Brasil participou da referida exposição, embora, neste mesmo período, estivesse enfrentando o colapso econômico com seus dois principais produtos de exportação: o café, oriundo do Oeste paulista, e a borracha do Norte, mais especificamente da região amazônica (Pará e Amazonas). No entanto, mesmo diante das dificuldades econômicas enfrentadas, foi no evento de Turim que o estado do Pará obteve o melhor desempenho em exposições internacionais até o início do século XX e, para atingir tal resultado, contou com o apoio da primeira instituição científica da Amazônia: o Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi.

    In Italy, the year 1911 was marked by intense celebrations due to the fiftieth anniversary of the Italian kingdom. The festivities of that jubilee took place in the cities of Turin, Rome, Milan and Florence, and were marked by an extensive program that aimed to show the world the social, political and economic rise of Italy after a critical period of national instability.

    The Exhibition of Industries and Labor in Turin was one of the main attractions of those festivities, with a theme focused on the economic development from industrial activities. Brazil participated in the referred to exhibition, although, in this same period, it was facing the economic collapse with its two main export products: coffee, coming from the West São Paulo, and rubber from the North, more specifically from the Amazon region (Pará and Amazon).

    However, despite the economic difficulties faced, it was in the event in Turin that the state of Pará obtained the best performance in international exhibitions until the beginning of the 20th century and, in order to achieve this result, it had the support of the first scientific institution in the Amazon: The Paraense Museum Emílio Goeldi.
