Mobartech, an informal education project for bringing people closer to cultural heritage

  • This contribution aims to present the multidisciplinary research project called Mobartech funded by the Lombardy Region as part of a large intervention under the European Regional Development Funds, FESR. This project had the general objective of developing in an innovative way the study, conservation, education and enjoyment of cultural heritage for the general public. The work involved several partners, together with four departments of the University of Milan Bicocca. A concrete objective was the creation of a mobile van (a small laboratory) dedicated to scientific research, but also to dissemination, it was designed to reach small museums scattered throughout the territory, such as works of art scattered in different locations. In the first phase three case studies were taken into consideration: a single painting, the Fourth state of Pellizza da Volpedo (1901), the frescoes of the Giotto period in the Palazzo dell'Arcivescovado of Milan, the UNESCO site of Mantua and Sabbioneta. Specifically, the Department of Human Sciences for Education has been working for the UNESCO site, increasing the awareness of citizens and tourists regarding the link between the two cities and the knowledge of the same cities. It was a path of informal education, in which people were involved in actions of fruition, participation and interpretation. In particular, various phases were developed, initially getting to know the territory through questionnaires, interviews with privileged witnesses (architects, restorers, guides, ceramists, photographers, ...), targeted observations, continuing with actions of discovery and exploration of the territory with various audiences until the construction of a kit dedicated to the discovery of the two cities. A specific part of this project was dedicated to secondary school students of first and second degree, also using the offer of alternating school-work. Together with these students, a kit for the enjoyment of the heritage was built to be proposed to the public. Initially a first project kit was created, which was then experimented and modified after collecting the reflections gained through its use. it was a concrete way to reflect on the cities in which the students live and on important information to make known to others, citizens and tourists. A significant aspect in the creation of the kit was the balance between hands-on activities and actions with digital support.
