La espasticidad secundaria a lesiones del sistema nervioso central es una causa importante de deterioro y discapacidad, especialmente cuando afecta a la extremidad superior, pudiendo mejorar con inyecciones intramusculares de toxina botulínica. Este estudio, cuyo objetivo fue evaluar los efectos funcionales del tratamiento con dicha toxina sobre la espasticidad de las extremidades superiores, mostró eficacia en la reducción del deterioro y mejora de la función pasiva, no observándose beneficio en el uso diario de la extremidad.

Spasticity secondary to lesions of the central nervous system is an important cause of deterioration and disability, especially when it affects the upper extremity. Itcan be improved with intramuscular injections of botulinum toxin.This study, whose objective was to evaluate the functional effects of the treatment with this toxin on the spasticity of the upper extremities, showed efficacy in the reduction of the deterioration and improvement of the passivefunction, but notin dailyuse of the limb.
