Aquest article pretén aprofundir el conei-xement de la naturalesa del règim liberal i de la contrarevolució a la província de Lleida, un punt geoestratègic de primer ordre. Si bé la decadència del sistema absolutista borbò-nic va esperonar el constitucionalisme gadità a les terres de Lleida, una sèrie de factors com la severa crisi econòmica, la controver-tida qüestió religiosa i l’aferrissada confron-tació politicoideològica van propiciar l’ex-tensió de l’antiliberalisme. L’aixecament de partides reialistes va permetre al moviment contrarevolucionari l’establiment d’una Jun-ta Apostólica a Cervera, l’esclat d’una autèn-tica guerra civil i la instauració de la Regèn-cia a la Seu d’Urgell, l’únic Govern espanyol de la història amb seu al territori lleidatà.

The present article tries to deepen to-wards the knowledge of the nature of the lib-eral regime and the counterrevolution in the province of Lleida, a geostrategic point of first order. Although the decline of the Bourbon absolutist system spurred Cadiz constitutional-ism in the lands of Lleida a number of factors such as the severe economic crisis, the contro-versial religious issue and the fierce political-ideological confrontation led to the spread of anti- liberalism. To the extent that the rise of roy-alist parties allowed the counter-revolutionary movement to establish an Apostolic Board in Cervera, the outbreak of a real civil war and the establishment of the Regency in La Seu d’Urgell, the only Spanish government in his-tory based in the territory of Lleida.
