Resumen de Breve panorama de la traducción poética en el periodismo cultural de México (1947-1970)

El periodo entre la posguerra y el final de la década de los sesenta (1947 a 1970), que incluye las etapas centrales de la guerra fría cultural latinoamericana, fue particularmente fructífero en el desarrollo del periodismo cultural en México. Aunado a este proceso, hubo un auge de traducciones de poesía concentrado en la década de 1960. Desde un análisis cuantitativo, este artículo ofrece un primer panorama general de ese crecimiento, ligado a varias coyunturas editoriales. En un segundo momento se estudian las “políticas de traducciones” y “geografías culturales”, según lo estipula Beatriz Sarlo (1992), de tres revistas y suplementos cruciales para el periodo (Revista de la Universidad de México, La Cultura en México y El Corno Emplumado). Nos enfocamos en ciertas facetas biográficas interculturales de los poetas-traductores y otros intermediarios, como lo aconseja Anthony Pym, para reconstruir un ínfimo episodio de la historia de la traducción en México.

The years between the post-war and the end of the sixties (1947 to 1970), in the midst of the cultural Latin-American Cold War, were particularly fruitful in the development of cultural journalism in Mexico. Alongside this process, there was a boom in poetry translations concentrated in the 1960s. In this article, we offer a first overview of this growth from a quantitative analysis, linked to various editorial conjunctures. On the basis of this data analysis, we study the "translation policies" and "cultural geographies", as Beatriz Sarlo (1992) puts it, of three cultural supplements and magazines crucial to the period (Revista de la Universidad de México, La Cultura en México and El Corno Emplumado). We focus on certain biographical intercultural facets of the most important poet-translators and other intermediaries, as Anthony Pym advises, in order to reconstruct a comprehensive episode in the history of translation in Mexico.
