Resumen de Educar para (in)formar: a educação sanitária do Serviço Nacional da Lepra na década de 1940

Este artigo apresenta algumas estratégias de educação sanitária utilizadas pelo Serviço Nacional de Lepra (SNL), notadamente filmes e palestras com propaganda das atividades desenvolvidas pelas autoridades sanitárias em relação à doença que atualmente é chamada de hanseníase. São analisados cinco filmes, produzidos entre 1939 e 1946, por órgãos governamentais, e seis palestras proferidas pelos leprologistas brasileiros, entre 1944 e 1945, que enfocam cuidados e atividades de controle para tratar a doença. Estas ferramentas foram utilizadas pelo SNL para mostrar as estratégias usadas de combate à doença, esclarecer a população sobre os cuidados necessários e sobretudo positivar o papel de instituições criadas para isolar e tratar os pacientes e seus filhos.

This article presents some health education strategies used by the National Leprosy Service (SNL), notably films and lectures advertising the activities developed by health authorities in relation to the disease that is currently called Hansen’s disease. Five films are shown, produced between 1939 and 1946, by government agencies, and six lectures given by Brazilian leprologists, between 1944 and 1945, which focus on care and control activities to treat the disease. These tools were used by the SNL to show the strategies used to fight the disease, inform the population about the necessary care and, above all, affirm the role of institutions created to isolate and treat patients and their children.
