A program of divergent selection for intramuscular fat (IMF) in the Longissimus dorsi muscle (LD) in rabbits was carried out. Difference in IMF between high (H) and low (L) lines after 5 generations was a 27.7 % of the mean at 9 weeks of age. Enzymes activities involving lipid metabolism of two muscles (Semimembranosus propius (SMP) and LD) and perirenal fat (PF) were studied in H and L lines at 9 and 13 weeks. Bayesian inference was used. Muscle SMP showed higher G6PDH and FAS lipogenic activities and higher oxidative activities than LD, while LD showed a greater glycolytic activity. Lipogenic activities increased with age in all studied tissues. Differences between H and L lines were detected for lipogenic and catabolic activities at 13 weeks but not at 9 weeks. Greater lipogenic activities in SMP, LM and PF were observed in H line compared to L line. Line H had higher glycolytic activity in LD and lower oxidative activity in SMP than L line. Our results indicate that lipogenic and metabolic activities are influenced by the metabolism of each muscle. Differences in lipogenic and oxidation activities between H and L lines can be attributed to the selection for IMF.
