En el presente texto pretendemos analizar la figura y red comercial del mercader burgalés y regidor de Cádiz del siglo XVI, Diego de Polanco. Su red se extendía por las islas Canarias, Madeira, Berbería, las Indias, Norte de Europa e Italia siendo el agente y correspondiente de poderosos mercaderes burgaleses, genoveses, florentinos o portugueses. Comerció con lana, esclavos, textiles y manufacturas italianas, vino de Jerez, azúcar, etc. Su riqueza y poder le permitieron asaltar el cabildo gaditano y su descendencia se ennobleció rápidamente, pues su nieto tituló como conde de San Remi
In this text, we pretend to analyse the life and commercial network of Diego de Po-lanco, 16th-century Burgalese merchant and Cadiz alderman. His networks run through the Canary Islands, Madeira, Barbary, Spanish Indies, Northern Europe, and Italy, where he worked as an agent of mighty Burgalese, Genoese, Florentine, or Portuguese merchants. Polanco traded with wool, slaves, textiles, Italian manufactures, Sherry wine, sugar, etc. His wealth and power allow him to enter the Cadiz city hall and his descendants were quickly ennobled, as his grandson was titled the first Earl of San Remi
