  La COVID-19 es una enfermedad que puede llegar a provocar un síndrome respiratorio severo, siendo necesario el ingreso en la UCI y la utilización de intubación y ventilación mecánica. Una de las secuelas de la COVID-19 puede ser la disfagia, bien por el daño en el sistema nervioso central y periférico que provoca el virus o por la necesidad de intubación y de ventilación mecánica prolongada que puede tener efectos negativos en la deglución. La gran infectividad de la COVID-19 ha obligado a elaborar una serie de recomendaciones a la hora de realizar la evaluación y el tratamiento de la disfagia, que protejan a los terapeutas implicados de la exposición al virus.

  COVID-19 is a disease that can cause a severe respiratory syndrome, requiring admission to the ICU and the use of intubation and mechanical ventilation. One of the sequelae of COVID-19 can be dysphagia, either due to the damage to the central and peripheral nervous system caused by the virus or due to the need for intubation and prolonged mechanical ventilation that can have negative effects on swallowing. The great infectivity of COVID-19 has forced a series of recommendations to be drawn up when carrying out the evaluation and treatment of dysphagia, which protect the therapists involved from exposure to the virus.
