  • The study aimed to assess animal welfare regarding environmental resources such as the level of cubicles, feeders and drinkers. Was carried out on six farms in the Northern of Portugal, with herd size ranging from 34 to 90 lactating cows. The number of cubicles (-4.6±6.8) and guillotines (-18.4±13.4) was insufficient in the farms studied. The cubicles length head to head (2.27±0.12 m) and the wall (2.28r0.10 m) was slightly lower than recommendations for dairy cows. The length feeder for animal was 0.65r0.11 m, with an averaged depth interior of 0.49r0.07 m and exterior of 0.37r0.06 m. The average number of cows was 12.5 per trough and the trough space per cow was considered adequate (0.09±0.04 m).
