  • Resumen
    • We studied several factors that might influence the quality of chicks such as egg weight at incubation, transfer and types of incubators, strains (Hubber Redbru Mini, Sasso, Ross and Cobb) at various stages of production and distributed in seven facilities. There was a high correlation (R2=0.98) between the weight of the egg and chicks. There were differences (P<0.001) among strains for weight of egg at incubation. The Hubber strain showed the lowest weight (60.53 g) and Cobb had the highest weight (65.56 g). The multiple load incubators revealed lower chicks weight (42.55 g), and single load incubators greater chicks weight (44.29 g). The age of hens was significant (P<0.001) for egg weight at incubation, with lower weight (59.99 to 62.64 g) between 30 and 35 weeks of productive life. Older henss originated heavier chicks with some loss in hatchability rate.
