    La muerte en Tancoco, un poblado de la Huaxteca veracruzana, es un hecho complejo, y lo es porque alrededor de la misma se entretejen complejas relaciones sociales entre vivos y muertos, cruzadas por cuestiones sociales, económicas, políticas e ideológicas. A resultas de esta abigarrada composición, podemos señalar, surgen sentimientos contradictorios. A los muertos se les celebra, y se espera su llegada en el mes de noviembre, pero también se les considera seres que pueden hacer daño. En este trabajo se busca dar cuenta del imaginario de los teenek y de su contexto socio-económico para ofrecer al lector dos posibles interpretaciones respecto a lo que la autora considera “la perversidad de los muertos”.

    Death in Tancoco, a village in the Huaxteca Veracruzana, is a complex fact, due to the interweaving of the intricate social relationships between the living and the dead, and the criss-crossing of social, economical, political and ideological lines. As a result of this elaborate composition, opposite feelings will arise: the dead are awaited and celebrated in November; but on the other hand, the villagers consider the dead as entities that may harm people. In this sense, the article explore the imaginary around the teenek as well as their socio-economical context, and to propose to the reader two possible interpretations for what the author consider “The perversity of the dead”.
