  • Resumen
    • The aim of this work was to confirm that the determination of ileal digestibility can be determined using pooled samples of ileal digesta (one sample per treatment) compared to the use of single samples (reference method) and using in both cases the individual ileal Yb concentration to calculate apparent ileal nutrient digestibility. Three experimental diets were formulated with a low, medium and high soluble fibre content (8.5, 10.2 and 14.5 % SF calculated as TDF-NDF), and including 0.5 alfalfa fibre mordanced with Yb. Thirty canulated rabbit does at terminal ileum (4555±79 g) were randomly assigned to experimental diets and fed the experimental diets for 18 d. Ileal samples were then collected from 19 h onwards for 1 h during two consecutive days. One gram of each rabbit of each treatment were mixed all together to obtain one collective sample per treatment. Yb and dietary components were analyzed in single and collective samples (CP, TDF, insoluble and soluble fibre). Ileal digestibility was determined using individual Yb concentrations in ileal digesta and the composition of individual or common-pooled samples. A repeated measurements analysis was performed fitting a compound symmetry structure with heterogeneous variances as they showed a lower AIC and BIC values. Type of sample did not modify the standard error of ileal digestibility of CP (0.83 vs. 0.91) and TDF (1.10 vs. 1.10), but it increased and decreased moderately for insoluble (1.27 vs. 1.61) and soluble fibre digestibility (2.19 vs. 1.28). These small differences in the standard error did not modify the effects detected. Type of sample (individual vs. collective) and the interaction type of sample x type of fibre were not significant for any trait studied (P 0.83) and confirmed that collective pooled samples can be used to determine nutrient ileal digestibility with no modification of results. The increase of dietary SF increased ileal TDF, insoluble and soluble fibre digestibility (P 0.002).
