The author questions the relationship between the Protestant Reforma-tion and the birth of capitalism. The historical context of the Protestant Reformation shows that it was only a result of a society in crisis. The discovery of the Americas and the business opportunities that opens —especially the new emerging class, the bourgeoisie—, the shift from land to money... represent a challenge to the established order. The most relevant is the translation of the Bible into the vernacular languages and, in turn, the literacy of the people, which will rep-resent a very important impetus to social changes.

L’autor qüestiona la relació entre Reforma protestant i el naixement del capitalisme. El context històric de la Reforma protestant demostra que només va ser un resultat més d’una societat en crisi. El descobriment de les Amèriques, les oportunitats de negoci que obre —especialment a la nova classe emergent, la burgesia—, el canvi de referent de la terra al diner... representen un repte a l’ordre establert. El més rellevant és la traducció de la Bíblia a les llengües vernacles i, de retruc, l’alfabetització del poble, que representaran una empenta molt important als canvis socials.
