Resumen de Polímeros reforzados con fibras naturales para su aplicación en la industria automotriz

  En las últimas décadas, ha habido un creciente interés en los materiales compuestos a base de polímeros reforzados con fibras naturales debido a sus propiedades y aplicaciones. El uso de fibras naturales como materiales de refuerzo ha llevado a la industria, como la automotriz, a considerar el uso de estos materiales para fabricación de piezas de bajo impacto ambiental, en combinación con sus buenas propiedades mecánicas, bajo costo, buena disposición, reciclabilidad y biodegradabilidad. Debido a lo ya mencionado, en este artículo de revisión, se discutirá de manera general sobre los polímeros reforzados con fibras naturales y su impacto en la industria automotriz. También, se hablará de los polímeros reforzados con fibras naturales más ampliamente utilizados y sus propiedades. Por otro lado, se analizarán los diferentes tipos de fibras naturales empleadas como refuerzo en compuestos poliméricos. Se presentan procesos involucrados en el tratamiento de fibras naturales y su posible incorporación a una matriz de tipo polimérica y posteriormente se revisarán las propiedades de este tipo de materiales. Finalmente se revisarán algunas aplicaciones.

  In the last decades, there has been a growing interest in natural fiber-reinforced polymer-based composites due to their properties and applications. The use of natural fibers as reinforcing materials has led the industry, such as the automotive industry, to consider the use of these materials to manufacture its parts with low environmental impact, in combination with their good mechanical properties, low cost, good disposal, recyclability and biodegradability. Due to the aforementioned, in this review article, polymers reinforced with natural fibers and their impact on the automotive industry will be discussed in a general way. In addition, the most widely used polymers reinforced with natural fibers and their properties will be discussed. On the other hand, the different types of natural fibers used as reinforcement in polymeric compounds will be analyzed. The processes involved in treating the natural fibers for their possible incorporation into the polymeric matrix are presented and the properties of this type of materials will be reviewed later. Finally, some applications will be reviewed.
