Las imperfecciones del "perfecto secretario": teoría y práctica en el Manual de Antonio de Torquemada

    La instrucción de las cualidades consustanciales al secretario ideal es el eje sobre el que se estructura el "Manual de escribientes" de Antonio de Torquemada. Si consideramos su testimonio —que esboza la figura de un secretario insatisfecho en su cargo y crítico con su señor— desde la perspectiva ofrecida por otros colegas en tratados circundantes, concluiremos que el astorgano infringía sistemática y premeditadamente los preceptos básicos del arte que practicaba: secreto, lealtad, diligencia, prudencia y humildad. En este contexto, el humanista escritor no pudo ser en modo alguno el “secretario perfecto” que los tratados epistolográficos tan encarecida y reiteradamente postulaban.

    The teaching of the innate qualities of the ideal secretary is the core on which the Manual de escribientes by Antonio de Torquemada is based. If we take into account his statement —which outlines the figure of a secretary who is dissatisfied with his job and critic with his master— from the perspective offered by other colleagues in surrounding treatises, we will conclude that the man from Astorga infringed systematically and with premeditation the basic precepts of the art he practised:

    secret, loyalty, diligence, prudence and humility. In this context, the humanist writer could not be anyhow the “perfect secretary” the epistolographic treatises postulated so insistently and repeatedly.
