Resumen de Un siglo de migraciones a los Estados Unidos: la reconfiguración del Valle de Tangancícuaro (México)
Migración y espacio rural, son dos temas que confluyen en una pequeña región del centro occidente de México, el Valle de Tangancícuaro, ubicado en el noroeste del estado de Michoacán, que presenta una larga tradición migratoria –desde finales del siglo XIX– de fuerza de trabajo que se ha dirigido a los Estados Unidos a laborar en distintos sectores de la economía. A la vez las comunidades que conforman el Valle son eminentemente agrícolas y rurales. Resulta, entonces, importante entender las distintas reconfiguraciones que ha sufrido ese espacio rural, ligadas principalmente a la migración al norte, pero también a las distintas coyunturas que han estado presentes tanto en México como los Estados Unidos a lo largo de más de un siglo.Palabras Clave: Migración, espacio rural, Valle de Tangancícuaro, Estados Unidos, Mexico ABSTRACTA CENTURY OF MIGRATION INTO THE UNITED STATES: THE RECONFIGURATION OF THE TANGANCÍCUARO VALLEY (MÉXICO)Migration and rural environment are two themes that coexist in a small region located in the north-east of the Mexican state of Michoacán: the Tangacícuaro Valley. This is a region with an extended history of workforce migration –since the nineteenth century– into the United States’ economy. At the same time, the communities of the Valley are eminently rural and agricultural. Due to this situation, it is important to understand the different reconfi gurations that have occurred in this rural environment, connected principally to the migration towards the north, but also to distinct circumstances that have occurred in Mexico as well as in the United States during more than a century.Key Words: Migration, Rural Environment, Tangancícuaro Valley, United States, Mexico
