The purpose of this paper is to summarize the evolution of wages in the Spanish economy for the year 2020 (2008 to 2020, specifically) according to the Labor Price Index, the only official indicator of wages that shows them without distortions due to the "composition effect". Logically, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on these dynamics is strongly emphasized. Thus, we study both the nominal and real evolution of wages in aggregate and their sectoral behavior, the latter perspective explaining the general behavior of the indicator. The main conclusion obtained is that, in this case, the substitution of wages for benefits via ERTE generates an apparent devaluation of wages that, in reality, does not respond to downward pressures against wages in 2020, but rather responds to a statistical effect on the impact of the Index of these programas.
