Resumen: “Morella” explora el misterio y el horror gótico. El dolor, la muerte y la reencarnación son los pilares temáticos de esta historia. Además, la muerte de la protagonista femenina demuestra una vez más el motivo favorito de Poe. El presente ensayo se centra en las fuentes de Poe al revisar instancias de alusiones helénicas en el cuento. En ese sentido, este estudio debe servir como una nota sobre la amplitud de las referencias helénicas en “Morella” y la intertextualidad entre la obra de Poe y el Simposio de Platón. Igualmente, ahonda en las razones detrás de la indiscutible admiración de Poe por Grecia.

Poe’s “Morella” explores mystery and gothic horror. Pain, death and reincarnation are the author’s thematic pillars here. Also, the death of yet another female protagonist points toward Poe’s most favourite motif. The present essay focuses on Poe’s sources by revisiting instances of Hellenic allusions in the tale. To that end, this study should serve as a note on the extent of Hellenic references in “Morella” and the intertextual similarities between Poe’s work and Plato’s Symposium as it also delves into the reasons behind Poe’s indisputable admiration for Greece.
