Resumen de "The Treasure of Creative Power": A Portrait of the Young Female Artist in Willa Cather's The Song of the Lark

  Este artículo proporciona un análisis de la representación de la mujer artista en la novela de Willa Cather The Song of The Lark y explora la importancia del arte y los procesos de creación artística en el desarrollo de una identidad propia en la mujer, como es el caso de Thea Kronborg, la protagonista de esta Künstlerroman modernista, y el de la propia autora. Por lo tanto, al examinar tales temas a través de teorías literarias y de la investigación en artes y en estudios musicales, este artículo postula que el proceso de crecimiento personal de Thea se produce al orientar su creatividad y vocación en el aprendizaje musical y, especialmente, en cantar ópera. Este artículo tiene como objetivo final demostrar que la música no solo es una fuente genuina de inspiración para músicos y cantantes, sino que también puede ser una fuerza que autores y autoras usan en su propia literatura para recrear historias y obtener una autoexpresión más rica.

  This article provides an analysis of the portrayal of the woman artist in Willa Cather’s novel The Song of The Lark while exploring the importance of creativity and art-making processes in the development of a woman’s positive self-identity, as is the case with Thea Kronborg, the protagonist of this modernist Künstlerroman, and with the author herself. Therefore, by examining the above-mentioned issues through the lenses of literary theories, as well as through art research and music studies, this article posits that Thea’s process of self-growth comes through locating the vocation of artistic creativity in music learning and opera singing in particular. This paper ultimately aims to prove that music is not only a genuine source of inspiration for musicians and singers, but it can also be a force that writers use in their literature to re-create stories and move toward richer self-expression.
