La recuperación del retablo de San Cristóbal Mártir conservado en la antesacristía de la Catedral de Orihuela y su estudio histórico- artístico y patrimonial ha permitido conocer con detalle su origen y funcionalidad en el templo catedralicio, así como las distintas modificaciones históricas que ha sufrido. La obra está compuesta por un lienzo datado en el siglo XVII en donde se muestra a San Cristóbal y arrodillado a sus pies el sacerdote Cristóbal Ripoll, beneficiado de la Catedral de Orihuela y capellán real. La pintura se ornamenta con decoración Rococó en los laterales y un escudo nobiliario en su coronamiento perteneciente a la familia Timor, quien desde 1760 tuvo su sepultura en el altar donde se ubicaba el lienzo. En la parte inferior se añadió en el siglo XVIII la predela de un antiguo retablo con las advocaciones de santos y mártires vinculados a la identidad religiosa de la Corona de Aragón.

The recovery of the altarpiece of San Cristobal Martir, preserved in the ante-sacristy of the Cathedral of Orihuela, and its historical-artisticand patrimonial study, has allowed to know in detail its origin and functionality in the cathedral temple, as well as the different historical modifications that it has suffered. The work is made up of a canvas dating from the 17th century, representing San Cristóbal kneeling, and at his feet the priest Cristóbal Ripoll, beneficiary of the Orihuela Cathedral and royal chaplain. The painting is adorned with Rococo decoration on the sides, and has a noble coat of arms on its crown, which belongs to the Timorfamily. This family had its grave since 1760, in the altar where the canvas was located. In the lower part, in the 18th century, the predella of an old altarpiece with the dedications of saints and martyrs linked to the religious identity of the Crown of Aragon was added.
