Resumen de Estudio de la ecotoxicidad de residuos industriales y su relación con el contenido en metales pesados

M. Belen Coya Fernández, Elena Marañón Maison, Herminio Sastre Andrés

  • The leachates generated from industrial residues are, most often, responsible of polluting aquifers or rivers. In this study, residues generated in industrial activities such as metallurgy; mining and coal power stations, located in the region of Asturias were analysed obtaining their ecotoxicity values and metal contents (Fe, Cu, Pb, Cd, Hg). The ecotoxicity was obtained by the bioluminescence assay of Photobacterium phosphoreum. Previously, leachates of the residues were obtained applying the Extraction Procedure (EP). The results indicated that none of the residues could be classified as ecotoxic since their EC50 values were below 3000 mg/l. Very good correlation was found between EC50 and mercury contents of the residues.
