    Este trabajo reseña el cambio que a través de la historia ha presentado la división territorial del estado de Oaxaca, con énfasis en el nivel municipal. Se compara la información contenida en diferentes cartas de división territorial generadas tanto por instancias gubernamentales como por centros de investigación. Se intenta relacionar la división municipal con la información censa registrada desde fines del siglo XIX hasta la fecha y la reciente información ambiental generada por el INEGI. Se describe la metodología empleada por la autora para la obtención de la carta de división municipal del estado de Oaxaca y se enfatiza la Importancia de contar con información digital accesible, confiable, fácil de actualizar, necesaria para la planificación.

    This document reviews the historical changes of the territorial division in the State of Oaxaca. with an emphasis in those that occurred at a municipal level. The information contained in several territorial division maps developed by government agencies and research centers is compared. An effort is made to relate the municipal division with information obtained through censuses since the end of the nineteenth century to date, and with environmental Information recently generated by INEGI. The methodology used by the author to obtain the municipal division map for the state of Oaxaca is described, emphasizing the importance of having accessible, reliable and easy-to-update digital information, that is necessary for planning.
