Se analiza la caracterización de personajes que tienen un referente fuera de la ficción en el teatro español del siglo XVII y la percepción de este fenómeno por parte de los órganos censores. Algunas personas históricas fueron dramatizadas de tal manera que alcanzaron la tipificación que permitía al público reconocerlas, por ejemplo, por su forma de hablar. En ocasiones la censura se fijó en algunos de esos rasgos sin considerar las consecuencias que tenía para la identificación y función dramática del personaje. Se atiende a la dramatización y al juicio censor sobre los personajes de la Biblia, de la devoción, de la realeza, de la nobleza y del pueblo, entre otros. En concreto, se centra el campo de estudio en la obra dramática de Luis Vélez de Guevara que fue objeto de censura.

The characterization of figures that have a reference outside of fiction in the Spanish theater of the 17th century and the perception of this phenomenon by the censorship institutions are analyzed. Some historical people were characterized in such a way that they reached the typification that allowed the audience to recognize them, for example, by their manner of speaking. Sometimes censorship was fixed on some of these features without considering the consequences it had for the identification and dramatic function of the character. The dramatization and censorial judgment of the characters of the Bible, of devotion, of royalty, of the nobility and of the common people, among others, are attended. Specifically, the field of study focuses on Luis Vélez de Guevara’s theater that was censored.
