    La trata de personas consiste en la esclavitud del siglo XXI y constituye uno de los delitos organizados más lucrativos. Aunque un aspecto inherente de este fenómeno delictivo es la adopción de unas acciones conducentes a la explotación de un individuo en beneficio de otra persona, el delito ha sufrido una importante evolución asociada al uso de las nuevas tecnologías que presenta nuevos retos de cara a su identificación, protección de las víctimas y prevención del delito. El presente artículo tiene como objetivo analizar cómo el uso de las nuevas tecnologías ha supuesto un impacto en el delito de trata de personas frente al enfoque que el Protocolo de Palermo principalmente establece en la lucha contra la trata. Hay que señalar que la discordancia respecto de cómo se manifiesta el delito y cómo se pretende abordar presenta graves riesgos y retos que limitan la detección del delito, la protección de sus víctimas y su prevención.

    Human trafficking is the slavery of the 21st century and is one of the most lucrative organized crimes. Although an inherent aspect of this criminal phenomenon is the adoption of actions leading to the exploitation of an individual for the benefit of another person, the crime has undergone a significant evolution associated with the use of new technologies that presents new challenges in terms of identification, victim protection and crime prevention. This article aims to analyse how the use of new technologies has had an impact on the crime of trafficking in persons compared to the approach that the Palermo Protocol mainly establishes in the fight against trafficking. It should be noted that the discordance in how the crime manifests itself and how it is intended to be addressed presents serious risks and challenges that limit the detection of the crime, the protection of its victims and its prevention
