La lectura es una experiencia determinante para el ser humano por cuanto quetiene la capacidad evocadora de hacernos vivir otras vidas, transmitirnos conocimientos delpasado y hacernos soñar con futuros aún por inventar. Es determinante, además, porque el lectorproyecta lo que él mismo es sobre lo que lee, por lo que el ejercicio lector se convierte en unaforma introspectiva de conocimiento y construcción de uno mismo. Del mismo modo, en eseacto transformador de la lectura, el lector incorpora lo leído como parte constituyente de su ser,un acto que, de forma constante, interpela y reformula la manera en la que el lector entiende surealidad y a sí mismo.Este trabajo pretende ofrecer una reflexión sin pretensiones sobre lo que hemos llamadodeterminismo lector o literario. Nuestro objetivo es reflejar la influencia determinante que lalectura ejerce sobre nosotros y sobre lo que somos individualmente y como sociedad, yevidenciar la necesidad, por tanto, de revisar el modelo literario canónico para empezar a leerdiferente si lo que queremos es llegar a entender diferente y ser diferentes.

Reading is a determining experience for human beings for it has the evocativecapacity of making us live other lives, transmitting knowledge from the past and guiding our dreamsinto new futures yet to create. In addition, reading is determining because, in the process, readersproject what they are onto their reading, so that the reading process becomes an introspective wayof self-knowledge and construction. In the same way, through this transformative act of reading,readers incorporate what they read as a constituent part of themselves, in a process of constantquestioning and reformulating the way in which they apprehend themselves and their reality.This paper aims to offer a reflection on what we have called reading determinism. The objectiveof this work is to reflect on the determining influence that reading exerts on what we are both asindividuals and society, and, therefore, to highlight the need to review the canonical literary modeland to start reading differently to reach different understanding and being differently.
