    Guinea Ecuatorial es el único país de habla hispana situado en la región de África Central.

    Cuando se independizó de España en 1968 no contaba con ningún centro de Educación Superior. Tras la firma de un Protocolo en 1981 entre ambos países, la Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED) se estableció en Guinea con el objetivo inicial de ser el núcleo de la futura universidad autóctona y prestar asistencia para la formación de los cuadros técnicos necesarios para la reconstrucción del país. La Universidad Nacional de Guinea Ecuatorial (UNGE) se creó en 1995. El presente artículo hace referencia a la estructura, composición y funciones del Centro de la UNED y destaca su participación en actividades de investigación y extensión universitaria, priorizadas por la UNGE, durante el periodo 2007-2012.

    Equatorial Guinea is the only Spanish-speaking country located in the Central African region. When it became independent from Spain in 1968, it did not have any higher education center. After the agreement of a Protocol in 1981 between the two countries, the National Distance Education University (UNED) was established in Guinea with the initial objective of being the nucleus of the future autochthonous university and providing assistance for the training of the necessary technical staff for the reconstruction of the country. The National University of Equa-torial Guinea (UNGE) was created in 1995. This article refers to the structure, composition and functions of the UNED Center and highlights its participation in university research and exten-sion activities, prioritized by the UNGE, during the period 2007-2012
