Resumen de Poligamia, feminismo y tradición en la obra de Ousmane Sembène

  En este artículo abordamos la obra de Ousmane Sembène con el objetivo de dilucidar el ideal feminista que recorre sus páginas. Para ello examinaremos tres aspectos clave de la sociedad senegalesa: religión, tradición y poligamia. El escritor senegalés estima que estos tres elementos contribuyen de manera efectiva al mantenimiento de una radical desigualdad de género al promover un modelo social arcaico que fomenta el patriarcado. Los personajes femeninos de Sembène cuestionan este modelo y al hacerlo comprometen igualmente los valores tradicionales que sustentan la sociedad senegalesa. Su liberación respecto de estos imperativos sociales es el principio de un largo camino de emancipación que, al mismo tiempo, promueve un nuevo arquetipo femenino.

  Dans cet article nous abordons l'œuvre d'Ousmane Sembène dans le but d'élucider l'idéal féministe qui parcourt ses pages. Pour ce faire, nous examinerons trois aspects clés de la société sénégalaise: la religion, la tradition et la polygamie. L'écrivain sénégalais estime que ces trois éléments contribuent efficacement au maintien d'une inégalité radicale entre les sexes en promouvant un modèle social archaïque qui promeut le patriarcat. Les personnages féminins de Sembène questionnent ce modèle et, ce faisant, compromettent également les valeurs traditionnelles qui fondent la société sénégalaise. Leur libération de ces impératifs sociaux est le début d'un long chemin d'émancipation qui, en même temps, promeut un nouvel archétype féminin.

  In this article we tackle Ousmane Sembène’s work with the aim to elucidating the feminist ideal that runs through his work. To do this, we will examine three key aspects of the Senegalese society: religion, tradition and polygamy. The Senegalese writer estimates that these three elements contribute effectively to the maintenance of a radical gender inequality as they promote an archaic social model that encourages patriarchy. The female characters of Sembène challenge this model and by doing so they equally compromise the traditional values that modeled Senegalese society. Their liberation from these social imperatives is the beginning of a long road to emancipation that at the same time promotes a new feminine archetype.
