Resumen de La movilización de la milicia urbana en el reino de Mallorca ante la amenaza argelina (1784-1785)

Los dos bombardeos a la ciudad de Argel en la década de los ochenta provocaron la posibilidad de una invasión de reino de Mallorca de las embarcaciones argelinas entre 1784 y 1785. La milicia urbana fue movilizada según el precedente de los años 1770-1771. El presente artículo pretende conocer los antecedentes en este tipo de movilización civil, así como analizar la formación miliciana en Palma y en el resto de municipios mallorquines ante la amenaza argelina, con el perfil social de los mandos y cuál fue la respuesta en las islas de Ibiza-Formentera y Menorca. El artículo se cierra con unas conclusiones y un breve repertorio biográfico de los mandos milicianos.

The mobilization of the «milicia urbana» of Mallorca in the face of the Algerian threat (1784-1785). The two bombings of the city of Algiers in the eighties caused the possibility of an invasion of the kingdom of Mallorca by Algerian ships between 1784 and 1785. The urban militia was mobilized according to the precedent of the years 1770-1771. This article aims to know the background in this type of civil mobilization, as well as to analyze the militia formation in Palma and in the rest of Mallorca municipalities in the face of the Algerian invasive threat, with a social profile of its commanders and also what was the response in the islands of Ibiza-Formentera and Menorca. The article closes with some conclusions and a brief biographical repertoire of the militia commanders.
