  • Resumen
    • Extract Americans are obsessed with their history. References to the founders are frequently found in American constitutional and political discourse. This historical fixation continues to produce thick volumes not only of political biographies, but also of legal ones. In addition to the many biographies of U.S. Supreme Court justices, one can also find biographies of leading legal academics including Christopher Columbus Langdell,1 Roscoe Pound,2 and Karl Llewellyn.3 This reflects the vitality of the field of legal history in the United States. In contrast, Canadian legal history is still a work in progress. There are wonderful scholars in the field who have produced superb works of scholarship, but their numbers remain relatively low. This reflects a broader Canadian disinterest in Canadian history, perhaps best reflected in the attention that a Canadian historian garnered in the late 1990s with the publication of a book entitled Who Killed Canadian History?4 Thus, there are relatively few biographies of Canadian prime ministers or of Supreme Court of Canada justices.
