    Como después Dvořák, Bruckner o Mahler…, Beethoven no llegó a concluir su Décima Sinfonía y, doscientos cincuenta años después de su nacimiento, son muchos los interrogantes que encierra esta obra, inacabada, de la que se conservan fragmentos y esbozos en diversas instituciones europeas. A partir de los cuadernos de conversación del compositor, diversos testimonios escritos demuestran la voluntad de Beethoven de trabajar en esta obra los últimos meses de su vida (1826-1827), cuya idea inicial había convivido con la de la monumental Novena Sinfonía (1822-1824). La reconstrucción del musicólogo Barry Cooper (1988) de los bocetos del primer movimiento coincide, en buena parte, con las referencias del compositor, pero, sobre todo, con diversas ideas de obras anteriores, en lo que Beethoven concebía como un grandioso homenaje a la serenidad de la época grecolatina, que admiraba, junto a alguno de los recuerdos de su juventud.

    Like later Dvořák, Bruckner or Mahler..., Beethoven did not finish his TenthSymphonyand, two hundred and fifty years after its birth, there are many questions that this unfinished work contains, of which fragments and fragments are preserved in various institutes. From the composer’s conversation notebooks, various written testimonies demonstrate Beethoven’s willingness to work on this work in the last months of his life (1826-1827), whose initial idea had coexisted with that of the Ninth Symphony (1822-1824). Musicologist Barry Cooper’s (1988) reconstruction of the first movement sketches coincides, to a large extent, with the composer’s references, but, above all, with various ideas from earlier works, in what Beethoven conceived as a grandiose homage to the serenity of the Greco-Latin era, which he admired, together with some recollection of the works from his youth.
