L’obra i la figura de Jacint Verdaguer han tingut sempre una relació rellevant amb la música. Aquesta relació comença en vida del poeta, que és l’autor de la nostra literatura més musicat de tots els temps, i arriba fins als nostres dies. D’aquesta manera, el segle xxi compta amb més d’una vintena de músics que s’aventuren a posar música versos del poeta de Folgueroles, tot generant més de cent vint peces musicals. L’objectiu d’aquesta comunicació és valorar per quin motiu els creadors contemporanis continuen interessats en l’obra d’un poeta romàntic i veure de quina manera tracten i ofereixen de nou els versos de Verdaguer al públic. Per fer-ho, es fa una síntesi de la vinculació entre el poeta i la música, tot posant el focus en les obres musicals més destacades del segle xxi: Verdaguer, Cançó de la Terra, de Rafael Subirachs, Les cançons tel·lúriques, de Roger Mas, i Verdaguer, ombres i maduixes, d’Obeses, sense oblidar totes les obres generades al voltant del centenari de la mort del poeta, l’any 2002. De tot plegat, se’n fa una reflexió que pretén concloure per quin motiu Verdaguer és vigent i vàlid, encara avui.

The works and figure of Jacint Verdaguer have always enjoyed an important relationship with music. This relationship began during the life of the poet, who stands out as Catalan literature’s author whose works have been put to music more than any other’s at any time up to the present. The twenty-first century already numbers more than twenty musicians who have ventured to put Verdaguer’s poetry to music, totalling more than 120 musical compositions. The aim of this paper is to examine the continuing interest of contemporary creators in the works of a Romantic poet and to see how they approach and reintroduce Verdaguer’s verse to the public. To this end, we summarize the connection between the poet and music, focusing on the most noteworthy musical works of the 21st century: Verdaguer, Cançó de la Terra, by Rafael Subirachs, Les cançons tel·lúriques, by Roger Mas, and Verdaguer, ombres i maduixes, by Obeses, taking stock also of all the works appearing with the centennial of the poet’s death in 2002. Finally, we reflect on the reasons why Verdaguer’s popularity continues to be strong today.
