La restauración eclesiástica en las diócesis andaluzas coincidió con la difusión del sello diplomático como instrumento de validación en Castilla. En este trabajo se estudian los diferentes sellos utilizados por las instituciones capitulares de las catedrales de las diócesis de Baeza-Jaén, Córdoba y Sevilla durante el siglo xiii a través de documentos e improntas conservadas en diferentes archivos eclesiásticos. Los sellos capitulares de las diócesis andaluzas trascienden de su función jurídica y diplomática para transformarse en instrumentos de identificación de sus titulares, quienes deliberadamente introdujeron elementos textuales e iconográficos para conformar una imagen representativa de las incipientes instituciones eclesiásticas.

Ecclesiastical restoration of the Andalusian dioceses coincided with increased recognition of the diplomatic seal as a symbolic instrument of legitimation in Castile. This article examines the different seals used by the capitular institutions of the cathedrals of the dioceses of Baeza-Jaén, Córdoba and Seville during the 13th century by looking at documents and imprints preserved in different ecclesiastical archives. The chapter seals of the Andalusian dioceses transcend their juridical and diplomatic function to become identifying indicators of their owners, who deliberately introduced textual and iconographic elements to form a representative image of the incipient ecclesiastical institutions.
