    La adopción del alumbrado eléctrico en la ciudad de Puebla durante el porfiriato, fue mucho más que la modernización de un servicio público. Para la sociedad poblana de finales del siglo XIX y principios del XX, la introducción de la luz eléctrica significó formar parte de las ciudades modernas de la época. La iluminación de la ciudad en dicho periodo histórico era realizada principalmente por el ayuntamiento sin embargo las múltiples fallas del nuevo servicio incitaron a los habitantes, sobre todo comerciantes del centro de la ciudad, a iluminar por ellos mismos sus negocios. Todo ello transformó rápidamente la fisionomía urbana al mismo tiempo que intensificó ciertas actividades de la ciudad nocturna. El presente artículo explora las primeras décadas de la iluminación eléctrica en la ciudad y las transformaciones que ello implicó, transformaciones no sólo físicas sino también sociales relacionadas con la llegada de nuevos servicios (restaurantes, cafés, cinemas) y de nuevas actividades festivas que conllevaron a una intensificación de la práctica y de la apropiación del espacio urbano durante la noche, así como a una nueva percepción de lo que significaba la vida nocturna en la ciudad.

    The adoption of the electric lighting in the city of Puebla during the Porfiriato, was much more than the modernization of a service. For the society of Puebla at the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century, the introduction of electric light means form part of modern cities, since it took one of the Technological advances of the era. The lighting of the urban space in this historical period was carried out chiefly by the town hall, however the multiple failures of the new service impetus to certain individuals, especially businessman to illuminate by themselves their business. All of this quickly transformed the urban physiognomy at the same time that generated new practices of the city nightlife. This article explores the first decades of electric lighting in the city and the transformations that it implied transformations not only physical otherwise also social changes as the arrival of new services such as restaurants, cafe and cinemas and new festive activities that led to an intensification of the practice and the appropriation of urban space during the night and a new perception what meant the nightlife.
