RESUMEN: Se describe e interpreta los aportes que desde diferentes disciplinas, especialmente la antropología, la botánica y la historia dan cuenta de usos y practicas con la bebi- da del yagé en el Amazonas en los rituales de los chamanes en diversas culturas. Igualmente se identifica bibliografía que aporta a los estudios multidisciplinarios del yagé, para su comprensión en prácticas contemporáneas y fuera de contextos cul- turales chamánicos, en la sociedad occidental. Se destaca el papel del chaman como eje social y cultural del rito que pervive y la importancia de los estados modificados de conciencia originado en la ingesta de la bebida para curar enfermedades y cono- cer de los conflictos humanos que alteran el orden social.

ABSTRACT: The contributions made from different disciplines, especially from Anthropology, Bo- tany and History, on the study of the uses and practices of the drink yaje in the Ama- zons in the shamanistic rituals in diverse cultures are described and interpreted. In the same manner, bibliography that contributes to the multidisciplinary studies of yaje is identified, as a reference contribution for the understanding in contemporary practices, outside of cultural shamanic contexts, in Western society. The shaman’s role as a social and cultural axis of the rite that lives on stands out, as well as the importance of the modified states of consciousness originated in the intake of the drink that allow it to cure illnesses and to recognize the human conflicts that alter the social order.
