Resumen de Comidas del Zopilote

  Este artículo aborda la cuestión de la comida ritual a partir de una ofrenda al zopilote (buitre), efectuada en el marco de la ceremonia de “petición de lluvia” por una comunidad nahua de la región del Alto Balsas en México. A partir de la perspectiva de la “etnografía multiespecies”, se subraya cómo las relaciones entre los humanos y el zopilote giran a torno a la comida y a la empatía, y cómo el ave, limpiadora del mundo, es involucrada en la compleja red de relaciones moldeadas por los conceptos nahuas básicos de trabajar, nutrir y amar. En la ofrenda anual culmina la relación humanos-zopilote, pues concentra en un ritual impactante estos conceptos y el papel del ave en el ciclo agrícola, del cual dependía tradicionalmente la vida de la comunidad.

  In this article, ritual food is analyzed in the context of an annual offering to the vulture, during the “rain petition” ceremony in the Alto Balsas Nahua region, México. Using the “multispecies ethnography” perspective, the author underlines how the relations between human beings and the vulture are connected to food and empathy, and how the bird, as cleaner of the world, is involved in the complex network of relations framed by the basic Nahua concepts of working, feeding and loving. The human-vulture relationship culminates in the annual offering, which concentrates in an impressive ritual those concepts and the paper of the bird in the agricultural cycle from which Nahua people were traditionally dependent.
