    This article proposes an exploration of the mythic and imaginary background of the Catalan rural novels in the second half of the 19th century, in which the pairalisme lesson has a determinant role. In these texts, the farmer, a not very present figure in literature until then, is invested with the catalanism essence, and the world where he belongs, the rural one, is transformed into the only possible habitat for the «good Catalan».

    Cet article propose une exploration du sens mythique et imaginaire dans les romans rustiques catalans de la seconde moitié du XIXe siècle, dans lequel le discours du pairalisme joue un rôle déterminant. Le paysan, figure jusqu'alors peu présente en littérature, y est investi d’un pouvoir sublimatoire de l’essence de la catalanité et le monde qui lui appartient, la ruralité, se transforme en le seul habitat possible pour le « bon catalan ».
