It is to analyze the mutations caused by the French invasions in relations between France and the colony, including the dislocation of the center of the empire to America and the attempt to restructure it. The creation of the United Kingdom of Portugal and Brazil is indicative of the new status of the former colony in the new empire. The resistance to this new order follows the confrontation between two competing visions, including the large differences could lead to the independence of Brazil.

Il s’agit d’analyser les mutations provoquées par les invasions françaises dans les relations entre la métropole et la colonie, notamment la dislocation du centre de l’Empire vers l’Amérique et la tentative de restructuration de celui-ci. La création du Royaume-Uni du Portugal et Brésil est révélateur du nouveau statut de l’ancienne colonie au sein du nouvel Empire. De la résistance à ce nouvel ordre résulte la confrontation entre deux visions antagoniques, dont les profondes divergences ne pouvaient mener qu’à l’indépendance du Brésil.
